My night phone shift: ______________________________________
1. A current meeting schedule is available at the AIS office or the Baton Rouge website: www.batonrougealanon.org
2. Listen to the caller.
3. Encourage the caller to attend an Al-Anon meeting(s).
4. Avoid lengthy phone calls.
5. Obtain names and phone numbers of members of your group who would be willing to talk to callers who need more time. Take the caller’s first name and phone number and inform him/her that another Al-Anon member will contact him/her as soon as possible.
6. NEVER give an Al-Anon or Alateen’s phone number to anyone, not even to another person in the program.
7. Only callers between the ages of 8 and 20 should be referred to Alateen. Alateen members are welcome in Al-Anon meetings.
8. Remember Al-Anon’s tradition and avoid referring anyone to any outside enterprise.
9. There is a link on our website to the World Service Office website which offers a wealth of information about Al-Anon, including blogs, podcasts, and information about on-line meetings.
10. The address of the Al-Anon office is 9417 Brookline Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70809. The phone number is 225-924-0029.
11. If you take the phone for the weekend, remember that you do not have to be at home at all times. You are encouraged to use your cell phone, if available, and have a schedule of meetings with you. Please provide only your cell phone when you are willing to accept phone calls in this manner.
12. Here are a few numbers that are handy to have:
a. 930-0026 -- Alcoholics Anonymous
b. 924-3900 -- Crisis Intervention (The Phone)
c. 1-800-344-2666 -- for Al-Anon group information outside our area
